Final Exam Information:
Per county and administration mandate, there will be a final exam in my classes during the half-day sessions on June 5-7. Per county and administration mandate, any student not present to take the exam WILL BE GIVEN A ZERO. The only way to have this zero removed will be to make an appointment with administration over the summer to come in and make-up the test. Administrators will have the answer key and will replace the zero and adjust the final grades. Any questions regarding this, please contact administration, as I will not check my email from June 8 until the start of the next school year.
After School Science FCAT Tutoring:
Tutoring for the science FCAT test will be held after school in the Maroon computer lab from 3:50 to 4:50 on April 17, April 24, and April 27. Attendance is optional, but would be beneficial for most. Extra credit will be offered to those who attend. It is the parents' responsibility to arrange transportation.
High School Schedule Forms:
Students will be receiving high school schedule forms today, February 7, after meeting with the guidance counselor for their zoned school. These need to be completed and returned (including all parental and teacher required signatures) by Monday, February 13, 2017. Thank you.
High School Guidance Counselor Meetings
On Tuesday, February 7, the high school guidance counselors from the various high schools will be present at LAJH to go over scheduling for next year. Meetings will take place through the science classes. It is highly important that all students make the effort to be here on that day! Failure to do so could impede the scheduling process for 9th grade!
Printing Documents for the Experimental Research Expo Project:
Make sure you are taking care of printing your documents sooner, rather than later, as the due date approaches. Remember: I will NOT accept any excuses for not turning in the project on time that are computer-related! I will gladly print documents for you, however, the cut-off date to request I do so is Tuesday, December 6. After that I will not do any printng for you. Keep in mind if it is submitted by December 6, I may not get to it that day, but I will have all printing requests completed by Friday the 9th!
Experimental Research Expo Project
The Experimental Research Expo Project (Science Fair) is due on December 12! Students have been forewarned about county-wide internet outages, as well as computer viruses and printer problems that will arise in the two days before the project is due, so make sure this gets done sooner, rather than later, to account for those tragic events. Extra credit is offered for turning in the COMPLETED project early. Guidelines for extra credit were discussed in class. Guidelines for completing the project are posted in the Experimental Research Expo page of the website.
Galaxy Project extension:
Due to some of the lower grades on the galaxy project, I am allowing students to do work to help bring up the grades. For those who earned a 75 or below on the project, they will need to redo it. The guidelines are changed somewhat and those changes were discussed in class and noted below. Once I grade the new project, I will average the grades together and put that into FOCUS. For those at 76 or higher, they will get a worksheet on Tuesday that they may do to earn up to ten additional points on their project. This will be added directly to the grade. Both are assigned on a voluntary basis, but I HIGHLY encourage all to take advantage of the extra points possible.
FINAL Research Plan Announcement:
For the last few weeks, you have had the research plan assignment with a due date of ASAP. We have, many times in class, explained the importance of this document and the process of paperwork that follows. If the plan and paperwork are not approved by November 18, you will receive a zero on the project. Due to the process of approval for the research plan, the cut-off date for accepting them is this Thursday, November 10. Failure to submit one by that time will result in a zero. The plan MUST be submitted as a hard copy! As stated earlier, you have had several weeks to work on this, with daily reminders in class, on the homework board, and in the assignments section of the website. There will be no acceptable excuses for failure to turn in one.
Research Plans Again!
Just a reminder that November 10th is NOT the due date of the Research Plans (that would be ASAP!) but it is the last day I can accept them to possibly get you approval to begin your experiments! Remember, if you are not approved by the time we leave for Thanksgiving Break, you cannot do your experiment and will therefore fail the project (which has a huge impact on your quarter 2 grade! Please get these in ASAP!!! The responsibility (yes, I know that is a "dirty" word) is YOURS!
While no official due date for the Research Plan was given (in hopes that students would show responsibility in getting it in as quickly as possible), I am setting a deadline date after which I WILL NOT accept them any longer. If the plan is not submitted by NOVEMBER 10, 2016, I will no longer accept them and a ZERO will be given for the project. The project will affect each grade category as follows: Tier 1 - entered 4 times; Tier 2 - entered 3 times; Tier 3 - entered 2 times; Tier 4 - entered 1 time. Please make sure these are submitted as soon as possible. You have only till the end of Thanksgiving Break to complete the experiments!
Things to remember when revising Background Research Report:
Experimental Research EXPO packets:
The packet of guidelines for the project will be accessed electronically this year. Any students who do not have internet access at home may obtain a printed copy from me. Students who need a hard copy must request one IN WRITING no later than Wednesday, September 21!
Emergency Medical Cards
Emergency medical cards were passed out in fourth period today (9.13) and need to be filled out and returned to the 4th period teachers ASAP. For my 4th period class, they are due by Friday with a reward offered for turning them in.
